About This Call
The Contemporary Dayton is accepting proposals for exhibitions for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. The organization will schedule four to six exhibitions during each season, including one large solo show each year by a member artist, and two exhibitions for its annual REACH (Realizing Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage) Across Dayton collaboration with Sinclair Community College and EboNia Gallery.
The Contemporary Dayton is committed to presenting contemporary visual arts of the highest caliber, showing a wide range of styles and media, representing diverse viewpoints and cultural backgrounds, and encouraging interaction between artists and the general public. Although The Contemporary Dayton is a member-based organization, non-members are encouraged to apply. There is no geographic limit as to who may exhibit in the gallery. The Exhibitions and Programming Committee, comprised of Board of Trustees members, Contemporary members, artists, gallerists, and the general public, will review proposals. Selected proposals will be notified by December 15, with exhibition time slots offered January-March.
Entry fee is $30 per proposal; this fee is waived for the first application from current members. The gallery is 1,800 square feet with 200 feet of running wall space, including three moveable walls. The ceiling is 16 feet high with 50 feet of wall space at that height; remaining walls are 10 feet high. Exhibitions generally run between four and seven weeks. The Contemporary Dayton manages basic installation, an opening reception, and direct mail publications. The organization insures work during exhibition but not during transit. Gallery commission is 40 percent. Selected proposals receive a modest stipend, an illustrated color brochure with a critical essay, digital documentation, and an opportunity for the exhibition to travel to additional venues throughout Ohio. Work samples required: minimum 5 images, maximum 6 images; minimum 0 videos, maximum 3 videos; total samples minimum 5, maximum 9.
