About This Call
The Cumberland Furniture Guild, a regional not-for-profit association of studio furniture makers, collectors, and enthusiasts, will hold a juried exhibition at the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center from July 21 through October 23, 2020. The exhibition will take place at 200 South Second Street, Clarksville, Tennessee 37040.
Submissions of recent original or period reproduction furniture and furniture-related decorative arts of any style are welcome, provided they display fine craftsmanship and are complete and ready for exhibition at the time of submission. The work must be created by the maker whose name appears on the entry form; if there are other contributors, they must be acknowledged in the application. The use of CNCs and Lasers is welcomed if they facilitate an original creation by the maker. Each applicant may submit up to two pieces with up to three digital images per entry. Exhibitors must be members of the Cumberland Furniture Guild; however, the $70 entry fee includes a one-year Guild membership. Guild Regular Members in good standing pay $35, and Guild Supporting or Business Members pay no fee. Scholarships are available; contact [email protected] with the subject line 'Scholarship Request' for more information.
All work must be hand delivered to the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center during July 15-17, 2020, with exact delivery schedule to be arranged. Work will be picked up October 26-29, 2020. The show will be curated by the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center and the Cumberland Furniture Guild. Works may be offered for sale; any works that sell during the exhibit or within 30 days after closing will be subject to a 25% commission to the Customs House Museum & Cultural Center and the Cumberland Furniture Guild. The insurance value for each piece must be identified in the application. All work will be judged based on submitted images without identification of the maker. Jurors are Aspen Golan, a 17th & 18th century-style furniture maker from Boston, and Mike Bell, a cabinet maker and former Curator of Furniture & Popular Culture at the Tennessee State Museum.
