About This Call
The Civita Institute offers four fellowships for architects, planners, designers, artists, writers and other professionals practicing in all fifty states. Each fellowship includes a $2,000 stipend and accommodations at The Civita Institute's historic properties in Civita di Bagnoregio, Italy, located approximately 60 miles north of Rome.
Four fellowship types are available: The Astra Zarina Early Career Fellowship (for individuals with less than seven years of professional experience, includes one month lodging); The Civita Institute Advanced Career Fellowship (for professionals with more than seven years of experience, includes two months lodging); The Drexler Family Diversity Fellowship (for applicants who self-identify as members of a historically underrepresented group, requires 3 years of work experience, includes one month lodging); and the Partners in Design Climate Action Fellowship (for applicants exploring climate action projects through architecture, landscape, art, photography, activism, storytelling, or research, requires 3 years of work experience, includes one month lodging). The entry fee is $45, which constitutes a one-year membership in the organization.
Fellowships are structured around seasons: Summer/Fall 2020 runs mid-July to mid-September; Winter/Spring 2020 runs February to mid-April. Applicants must submit a project abstract, project proposal, work samples (up to 10 total: maximum 10 images, 6 audio files, or 6 video files), and contact information for three references. Proposals will be evaluated by an independent jury on relevance to the Civita Institute mission, research focus, feasibility, project scope and timeline, applicant experience, and potential impact on professional trajectory. Fellows are expected to present their work at a Civita Institute hosted event and provide written and digital documentation of the fellowship work within specified timeframes.
