About This Call
The Boulder Open Studios Tour traditionally takes place the first three weekends in October when over 100 artists host the public in their working studios in and around Boulder, Colorado. Due to concerns for safety during the global pandemic, the 2020 tour is going virtual (online) instead of the traditional in-person format.
Artists must apply and be reviewed by jurors. If accepted, you will be invited to participate in a full year program that includes the virtual tour, a special event in October, participation in physical retail and online sales galleries, teaching opportunities, and additional benefits. The application fee is $37 (non-refundable). If accepted, a $85 participation fee is due by June 20, 2020 (non-refundable after July 10). Artists will be notified of acceptance on or before June 13, 2020.
Benefits for accepted artists include: an artist page in the online Studio Tour catalog with images, artist statement, and links; optional virtual video tour of your studio; opportunity to sell art through the Open Studios online store (Open Studios retains 25-35% commission); social media and sales training; first-in-line opportunity for Pop Galleries retail space; listing in the Art Class Search; paid teaching residencies ($35/hour) in area public schools; paid outreach residencies ($35/hour) in Boulder Housing Partners and Thistle Housing communities; $10 discount on Boulder Plein Air Festival paint outs; and ongoing marketing campaigns throughout the year.
Eligibility: Studios must be located in Boulder County, Colorado. Accepted artists must derive a portion of their annual income from their art and must have required City, County, and State Sales Tax Licenses. Submit 6-10 images of art completed since 2017 that are representative of work you will show during the tour. Jury scoring criteria evaluate technical proficiency, individual style and personal vision, overall quality, and consistency of body of work (each worth 25% of total score).
