About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport is seeking proposals for 4 temporary public art works with Bonnaroo-themed displays at Nashville International Airport (BNA) in Nashville, Tennessee. The displays will be suspended from the ceiling from March 16, 2020 to January 24, 2021 in 4 skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $4,500 and 2 general admission tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Each artist will create a site-specific sculpture or kinetic mobile for one skylight. There are 4 skylights total: 1 on concourse B and 3 on concourse C. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass, and artists are responsible for selecting materials that can withstand sunlight exposure, high temperatures, and suspension for 11 months. Weight limit is 300 lbs. per sculpture. The ideal project should be of highest artistic quality in any media and inspired by the principles of the Bonnaroovian Code, incorporating iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (such as the Bonnaroo Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower with Cuckoo Clock, fan atmosphere, and infinity symbol), the 2019 location (Manchester, Tennessee), and the Bonnaroovian Code principles: Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don't be that Guy/Gal, and Stay True Roo.
Applications must include: résumé (maximum 2 pages), biography (1-2 paragraphs), 6-12 visual examples of previous work, minimum 6 visual renderings of the proposed skylight exhibit (maximum 10 images plus 0-2 videos), written site-specific proposal description (maximum 3 pages), artist statement describing how project elements would be incorporated, dimensions, weight, and written installation plan. The installation plan must detail weight, material composition, points of support, and include photo documentation of the sculpture suspended at the artist's studio for two weeks prior to installation. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation. Applications must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org by October 30, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Each artist or organization may submit no more than 2 applications. Selected artists will be notified December 2, 2019, with delivery and installation March 2-13, 2020.
