About This Call
Athenaeum Gallery Open Call: Moments in Time – A Very Weird Time
Artists who live or work in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia are invited to submit works responding to the global Coronavirus pandemic and its associated social distancing. Artists may address fear, uncertainty, anger and doubt, or explore the creative benefits of solitude and reflection. All visual media is welcome. Submit 1-3 images of work. Entry fee is $30.
Works will be selected by Athenaeum Gallery Director Twig Murray based on aesthetic excellence, mastery of media, creativity and thoughtfulness. Five $500 prizes will be awarded by an independent arts expert at the opening reception on Sunday, September 13, 2020. A $500 Viewer's Choice Award will be selected by viewer votes tallied at the end of the show. Acceptance notifications will be sent by Friday, August 21 via email.
The exhibition runs September 10 through October 18, 2020. All visual media must be wall-mounted and arrive wired and ready to hang with picture hooks. Work must be less than 9 inches deep. Painting, drawing, collage, etc. must be framed or fully finished. Sculpture must weigh less than 30 pounds. Works requiring electricity will not be accepted. Work must be available for the full exhibition period. The Athenaeum Gallery will retain a 40% commission on works sold and issue payment within thirty days of closing. All works will be insured for 100% of retail price from September 10 through October 18, 2020. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of work.
