2020 ArtPop Charlotte Region 12 County SC/NC Call

ArtPop Street Gallery is seeking 20 artists to display their work on billboards throughout the Charlotte region for a 12-month period. Selected artists' work will span 672 square feet of canvas on billboards provided by Adams Outdoor Advertising. Each selected artist will also receive an Uptown newsstand for 6 months. This advertising space translates to a $70,000-$150,000 value and provides significant career-boosting exposure.

Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18 years old or a high school senior planning to study the arts in higher education during the 2020-2021 academic year. High school seniors do not need to be 18 or have a website. All other applicants must have an active artist website. Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, or Union (NC), or York or Lancaster (SC). Submissions must be original work created within the last three years and cannot be collaborations. Artists selected in 2014, 2015, or 2016 may reapply; those selected in 2017, 2018, or 2019 are not eligible. All disciplines are welcome, including drawings, paintings, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, photography, and digital illustration. Work depicting nude subjects or slanderous content will not be accepted.

Submission Requirements: One image only, maximum 5MB file size, pre-cropped to 24" x 5.5" rectangle specifications. Submit a brief artist statement explaining your medium, website URL, social media accounts, and why you wish to participate in ArtPop. High school seniors should include their academic plans in the arts. A seven-member jury of art professionals, collectors, and ArtPop alumni will select 20 artists. Notification will be provided by November 12th. Selected artists must attend the Artist Reveal Reception on December 5, 2019 in Uptown Charlotte and may bring one guest. Billboards are expected to install in early January 2020. Selected artists agree to hyperlink the ArtPop website to theirs and post about the program on social media at least once monthly.
