About This Call

PlatteForum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Denver, is an award-winning arts and artist-in-residence program that teams under-resourced youth (K-12) with professional artists in intensive, structured, and long-term creative learning environments. As an artist community, PlatteForum supports the creation and presentation of new art and ideas by contemporary artists. The organization's dynamic, artist-centered residences are built upon engaging the broader community in the creation of new work, where artists, youth, and the public collaborate.

Residencies at PlatteForum are competitive with over 100 applications and only five slots awarded each year. Residencies are 6-8 weeks in duration with approximate timeslots: Residency A (Oct-Dec 2019), Residency B (Jan-March 2020), Residency C (March-May 2020), Residency D (June-July 2020), and Residency E (June/July 2019). The program is open to artists in all genres, including established professionals, emerging artists, and graduate students. Applicants must be able to speak and understand English. There is a three-year waiting period for former residents. Artists will be notified of acceptance no later than June 28th, 2019.

Applications require an artist statement (1000 character limit), a community engagement statement describing how you envision working with youth (1000 character limit), a resume/CV, and 8-10 work sample images. Audio or video samples must be submitted as links only, limited to less than 2 minutes. A key component of the residency is dedicating 4-6 hours per week to lead creative workshops with under-resourced youth. Each residency culminates in a public reception presenting the work and ideas of the resident artist and youth through performance, exhibition, artist talk, or similar presentation. PlatteForum provides a stipend of $250/week, facility access (over 4000 square feet with 2000 square feet of open studio), guest housing for out-of-town artists, kitchen access, computer and wireless internet, and accessibility accommodations. There are no residency fees. Entry fee: $35.00.
