About This Call

The 21st annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition "Works on Paper" 2019 at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences welcomes entries of original work created within the last two years. Works on Paper can include drawing, painting on paper, hand-pulled prints, photographic prints, digitally created artwork displayed as prints, and paper constructions that may be wall hung. The competition is open to emerging and established artists 18 years and older residing in the continental USA.

Eligibility and Specifications: Two-dimensional works should not exceed 60 inches in width and height, and not exceed 10 lbs. Work may not project beyond 18 inches in the third dimension. Larger work is allowed but requires prepaid return postage or shipping label. Do not submit work with retail value over $10,000. All submitted work must be suitably framed, firmly wired, prepared for hanging, and professionally presented. All paper must be displayed framed and protected under acrylic or Plexiglas. Three-dimensional work should be wall-mounted or displayed on a 10-inch deep wall-mounted shelf; do not submit 3-D work in the round requiring pedestals. Work must be available for the entire exhibition duration and cannot be withdrawn prior to closing. All works must be for sale; LBIF retains a 40% commission on all purchases and commissioned work.

Awards and Timeline: Cash awards of $500 first prize, $250 second prize, $100 third prize, and three honorable mentions will be awarded. The juror is Dr. Louis Marchesano, Philadelphia Museum's Audrey and William H. Helfand Senior Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. Exhibition dates: May 24 - June 23, 2019. Reception and awards presentation: Sunday, June 16, 5-7 PM. Entry fee: $35.00 for up to 3 entries (non-refundable). Accepted entries will be notified by email and posted on the LBIF website by May 3. Work must be received by May 20. Work will be returned to artists on June 27. Works will be insured for 60% of the artist's stated retail value during the exhibition.
