About This Call

Troy Main Street invites artists to submit letters of interest and qualifications to create site-specific outdoor sculpture artwork for the 2019 Sculptures on the Square event, running June 13 - September 13, 2019. This biennial event, taking place since 2003, regularly attracts thousands of visitors from surrounding communities and states. The event will feature approximately 20 Seward Johnson figures, the selected Regional Sculpture Artist, and art located in and around downtown businesses. Premier Health Upper Valley Medical Center has generously sponsored this project.

The selected artwork will be installed outdoors on city sidewalks or public green space at a featured location in the Sculptures on the Square event and included in marketing materials. The Selection Committee is looking for a sculpture approximately 4 feet wide x 4 feet deep x 8 feet tall. The artwork must be family- and community-friendly in design, nature, and content. Artists are encouraged to consider the history, region, and cultural aspects of Troy, Ohio, though artwork not Troy-specific will not be penalized. The total project budget is $2,000 USD.

Submissions must include: artist contact information and website; resume or CV showing a history of on-budget and on-schedule public art projects (or professional resume for first-time public art proposals); a detailed schedule for creation and installation; photographs or detailed conceptual drawings depicting size, scale, details, and installation methods; and a budget detailing costs for conception, creation, delivery, shipping, installation, insurance, and de-installation. Entries will be judged on adherence to community- and family-friendly content, appropriate size, and inclusion of adequate budget, schedule, and installation details meeting city requirements. This project is open to resident American and legal resident artists/artist teams residing and/or working in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Contact [email protected] with questions.
