About This Call
Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) announces the 2019 Susan Beech Mid-Career Artist Grant for mid-career artists. Established by San Francisco-based jewelry collector Susan Beech, this grant recognizes a mid-career artist who has made a substantial contribution to the field and provides resources to develop and implement a significant jewelry-related project that the artist would not otherwise have the ability to undertake.
The grant is open to makers between the ages of 35 and 55 at the time of the proposal deadline who have an active and ongoing exhibition record. The proposed project should be about jewelry, loosely defined, with a specific outcome to be completed within a two-year time frame. Examples include creation of a new body of work, a book or catalog, research and development including travel study, or performance art involving jewelry. Previously submitted proposals cannot be resubmitted.
The grant recipient will receive $20,000, paid over the two years of project implementation. Grant proposals must include: artist biography, project proposal outlining the project and explaining how the grant will support the artist's work and career, detailed budget, and a portfolio of five images supporting the project proposal. The jury includes grant founder Susan Beech, artist and educator Eija Mustonen (Finland), and Claudia Schmuckli, curator of contemporary art at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The application deadline is January 14, 2019 at midnight MST.
