2019 Plein Air Plus - National Juried Competition

The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences announces the fourth annual "Plein Air Plus" Competition and Exhibition on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Approximately 35 artists will be selected to participate in the Paint Out during July and August 2019. The juror is Peter Trippi, editor-in-chief of Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.

The Paint Out runs from July 1st through August 31st, allowing artists to visit and paint Long Beach Island's scenic seashore environment on their own schedule, at any time of day and in varied locations. Finished paintings will be exhibited in the "Island Life" exhibition from September 7th through November 3rd, featuring selected artists' Plein Air works and/or studio paintings developed from their Plein Air studies. A reception and awards presentation will be held on September 22nd from 2-4 pm. Artists are not required to attend.

Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years and older in the continental US. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images of previous work painted in the past two years. Painting media can include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Accepted artists will be notified by email and posted on the LBIF website by June 3rd. Artists must submit an artist statement with their application. Images must be JPEG or JPG format, 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side, and under 5 MB.

Cash awards include First Prize of $500 for both classical "Plein Air" and "Plein Air Plus+" categories, Second Prize of $250, Third Prize of $100, and three Honorable Mentions. Additional awards include the Passport to LBI Award, People's Choice Award, and LBIF Art Committee Award. The LBIF retains 40% of the retail price of work exhibited. All work must be available for the duration of the exhibition and ready to hang with firm wiring. Only paintings begun and completed during July 1st through August 31st are eligible.
