About This Call

Montgomery Bell Academy is pleased to announce the MBA 2019 Art Show, a traditional gallery-style, juried show featuring approximately 55 local and regional artists. This year's featured artist is Logan Hicks, an urban stencil artist based in New York City, internationally well known for his participation in the Urban Underground art movement and his larger than life mural on the Bowery Wall in Manhattan.

The gallery-style show runs from Thursday, November 7 through Sunday, November 10, 2019. The opening reception on Thursday, November 7 (6-9 PM) will feature the guest artist, live music, passed hors d'oeuvres, and a complimentary wine and beer bar. This evening is open to the public, and artists' presence is required. The exhibit will be open to the public again on Saturday, November 9 from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sunday, November 10 from 1 PM to 4 PM. Artists are required to be present during show hours on Thursday and Saturday; attendance is encouraged on Sunday. The show takes place in the Davis Arts Building on the MBA Campus, a recently renovated, state-of-the-art gallery setting. Each 2-D artist is allocated designated wall space and can bring as many paintings as fit in that space. Those exhibiting sculpture, carving, or jewelry will have ample table space. Wall spaces are assigned based on space considerations; special location requests cannot be accommodated.

Applicants must submit 8-10 high-resolution digital images of artwork and a short artist bio (no more than 5 sentences). All works exhibited must be original and for sale; commercial reproductions are not permitted, though a small number of limited, signed, high-quality reproductions may be allowed with permission. The application fee is $25 (non-refundable). If invited, artists agree to a 70/30 split with the artist receiving 70% and MBA receiving 30%. The MBA Art Show does not charge booth or participation fees. Invitations will be issued September 16, 2019, with a deadline to accept by September 23, 2019. Inventory submissions are due by October 28, 2019. Artist load-in is November 6 from 4-7 PM, and load-out is November 10 from 4-6 PM. Most exhibiting artists are local or regional, with the exception of MBA alumni.
