About This Call
Art/Act: Local – Sea Change is a juried exhibition of works by San Francisco Bay Area artists at the David Brower Center. This exhibition will feature multiple works by 3-4 artists, creating a more thorough presentation and enabling deeper engagement. Jurors will select artists based on their current body of work, and the Center's curators will work with artists to develop the final exhibition, which will include at least one new work per artist inspired by or addressing ocean conservation.
The exhibition will examine the negative changes currently experienced in the world's oceans and the positive changes hoped to be achieved in the future. Artists must live in one of the San Francisco Bay Area's nine counties. Participating artists will be offered a $1,000 honorarium towards the creation of one new work. Exhibition dates are February 22 - May 29, 2019, with an artist reception on Friday, February 22, 2019.
Submissions should include existing works that may be considered for the final exhibition. Artwork will be wall-mounted objects, video, or temporary performances or events. Wall-mounted objects must be between 24" and 72" wide and no more than 12" deep. Video should be appropriate for a roving gallery audience and may be looped with other artists' videos. Temporary art performances or happenings that are clearly defined may be proposed as part of the exhibition's event programming. Artists are required to deliver artworks on Monday, February 18, 2019 between 9:30 and 10:30 AM and pick up artworks on Friday, May 30, 2019 between 9:30 and 11:30 AM. Artists will receive notification September 14-21, 2018.
