About This Call
The Artist-in-Residence Program at Glacier National Park offers artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic discipline while being surrounded by the park's inspiring landscape. The program seeks professional artists whose work is related to the park's interpretative themes, supports the mission of the National Park Service, and contributes to conservation of these public lands.
Three residency sessions are available: June 3–28, 2019; July 8–August 2, 2019; and September 2–27, 2019. Selected artists receive four weeks of uninterrupted time to pursue their work and are housed rent-free in a furnished cabin on the shores of Lake McDonald. The cabin is rustic with basic cooking equipment and bedding provided, but has no cell phone service or internet. Artists must provide their own transportation and art supplies.
During the residency, artists must present several public programs related to their experience, which can include demonstrations, talks, exploratory walks, or performances offered on both sides of the park and possibly in the local community. Within six months of completing the residency, artists must provide digital images of selected work representing their experience to the park, which may be used in park publications, websites, and presentations. An entry fee of $20.00 is required. Up to three artists may apply collaboratively if their proposed project involves multiple artistic disciplines. Contact: [email protected]
