About This Call

Established in 1988, the Arts at the Airport Foundation showcases Tennessee's cultural heritage and creative talents through rotating public art exhibitions and permanent acquisitions at Nashville International Airport. The Flying Solo Exhibition Series, developed in 1996, provides a highly visible venue for Tennessee artists and advocates for the public value of art in the region. The series is supported by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission.

This opportunity is only open to Tennessee residents or artists who can demonstrate a strong connection to Tennessee through prior residency or their work. Artists must choose one category per application: Art Cases (3-dimensional media in A/B and C/D waiting areas), Concourse C Exhibit Walls (2-dimensional media including photography, framed or protected by plexi with profile less than 4" including frame and molding), or Concourse A Exhibit Cases for community groups, non-profit organizations, universities, and other groups with a Tennessee connection. Honoraria awarded to selected artists range from $500 to $1,000.

Complete proposals must include 7 digital images, a site-specific proposal description if applicable, a brief artist statement, a one to two paragraph biography, and a two page résumé or curriculum vitae. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven experience with similar installations, and artistic merit as evidenced by submitted visual materials. The selection committee comprises members from the Arts at the Airport Board of Directors and the MNAA's Community Affairs division. Note: Nashville International Airport is undergoing major renovations that could impact exhibition spaces and dates. Entry deadline: March 31, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Up to 3 applications per artist are allowed.
