About This Call
The 2019 DUMA Biennial is a highly-competitive, juried exhibition highlighting leading contemporary artists from the Midwest. Founded in 2003, the exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age or older residing within a 200-mile radius of Dubuque, Iowa, 52001. The entry deadline is March 14, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, with an entry fee of $40. Artists may submit a minimum of one and a maximum of nine images, or up to three audio or video files per application. All submitted works must have been completed between 2017 and 2019, be original works only, and be installation-ready with all hanging hardware securely attached. Works cannot be larger than 84 inches in any one direction, and wall-mounted works are limited to 100 pounds.
The 2019 juror is Sarah Humphreville, senior curatorial assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Awards include Best in Show ($1,000), Second Place ($500), and Third Place ($250). The juror also has the option of awarding Honorable Mention recognitions. Purchase awards and exhibition opportunities are additional benefits possible for selected artists. The exhibition runs May 18 – September 8, 2019. Accepted works must be delivered to the Museum between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM on May 8-9, 2019. Artists are responsible for all shipping and insurance charges. While on premise, the Museum will insure works for the value given by the artist. Notification of juror decisions will be sent April 15, 2019.
