About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport seeks proposals for 4 temporary public art work Bonnaroo-themed displays at the Nashville International Airport in Nashville, Tennessee. The displays will be suspended from the ceiling from March 11, 2019 to January 19, 2020, encompassing 4 skylights located in the airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $4,500 and 2 general admission tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Artists will create site-specific sculptures or kinetic mobiles for individual skylights. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass installed, exposing work to extreme sunlight and high temperatures. Each sculpture has a weight limit of 300 lbs. Artists are responsible for selecting materials that can withstand UV exposure, high temperatures, and suspension for 11 months. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation.
Proposals should be inspired by the principles of the Bonnaroovian Code and incorporate iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (such as the Bonnaroo Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower with Cuckoo Clock, fan atmosphere, and the Bonnaroo infinity symbol—note that the full Bonnaroo brand logo may not be included), display of the 2018 location (Manchester, Tennessee), and the Bonnaroovian Code principles. Selection will be based on artistic merit, incorporation of project elements, proven track record of completing work on time, maintainability, and public safety considerations. A written installation plan must be included with the application and updated one month prior to installation. Artists must suspend their sculpture at their studio for two weeks to verify performance, with photo documentation required. Applications must include a résumé (maximum 2 pages), biography (one to two paragraphs), 6-12 visual examples of previous work, 6-10 images of the proposed exhibit (photos, CAD drawings, etc.), and a written site-specific proposal (maximum 3 pages) describing dimensions, weight, installation plan, and material resistance to UV light and high temperatures. Each artist or organization may submit no more than two applications. Applications close October 30, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT and must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org.
