About This Call
The City of Palm Desert invites artists, galleries, museums, non-profit arts organizations, and private collectors to submit sculptures for the 2019-2020 El Paseo Sculpture Exhibition. Artists who participated in the 2017/2018 El Paseo Exhibition are not eligible. A $5,000 honorarium will be provided for each selected artwork. Participants are responsible for delivery and pick-up of artwork per scheduled date and time.
Sculptures must fit on existing concrete pads and meet specific requirements: 8' to 10' in height (maximum 5' for the 48" x 48" pad, up to 13' for select pads), no more than 3,000 pounds, suitable for viewing from all angles, and constructed of durable materials to withstand desert weather conditions. All sculptures must be designed with tabs or other devices to secure them to the concrete pads without altering the pads. Power is not available on site; sculptures requiring power should include a solar component. Sculptures must comply with all appropriate engineering requirements.
Submit a current resume or CV, up to five images of proposed sculpture, description of the piece(s) including materials and dimensions, and three references. A maximum of two sculptures per artist will be considered. Include complete contact information on all submittals. Application deadline: February 28, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selections will be made by March 14, 2018, with City Council review and approval by April 12, 2018. Selected artists will be notified by April 16-20, 2018. Exhibition installation is tentatively scheduled for October 22 – November 8, 2018, with exhibition dedication in January 2019 and de-installation in October 2020. Artwork can be sold but not removed for six months after installation. If sold, a replacement artwork must be submitted for approval and installed simultaneously with removal of the original piece. The City of Palm Desert will provide installation, de-installation, exhibition advertising, pads, lighting, maintenance, onsite insurance, and signage. For information, contact 760-837-1664 or [email protected].
