About This Call
PlatteForum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Denver offering competitive artist residencies. The organization supports under-resourced youth (K-12) working alongside professional artists in intensive, structured creative learning environments. Residencies are 6-8 weeks in duration with four available slots per season. Residency timeslots follow the approximate schedule: Residency A (Sept/Oct 2018), Residency B (Nov/Dec 2018), Residency C (Jan/Feb/March 2019), Residency D (April/May 2019), and Residency E (June/July 2019).
The Artist Residency program is open to artists in all genres, including established professionals, emerging artists, and graduate students. Local, national, and international artists are encouraged to apply. Selection criteria include artistic excellence, merit, and creative ways for interacting with the public. Applicants must be able to speak and understand English. A three-year waiting period applies for former residents. Over 100 applications are received annually for the five available slots.
PlatteForum provides facility access, a stipend of $250/week, staff support, program administration, workshop support, youth workshop supplies, opening event, press releases, and invitations. Guest housing is provided by PlatteForum community members, and a full kitchen, computer access, wireless internet, and wireless printers are available. All studios, grounds, and public and private areas are accessible to people with limited mobility and wheelchairs. There are no residency fees. Resident artists dedicate 4-6 hours each week (plus planning time) to work with a small group of youth in intensive workshops. Each residency culminates in a public reception presenting the work and ideas of the resident artist and youth through performance, exhibition, artist talk, seminar, or similar presentation. Application materials required: Artist Statement (1000 character limit), Community Engagement Statement (1000 character limit), Resume/CV, and 8-10 work sample images. Audio/video samples must be submitted as links only, limited to less than 2 minutes. Entry fee: $35.00. Artists will be notified of acceptance no later than June 8th, 2018.
