About This Call

The South Suburban Public Art Committee (SSPAC) seeks proposals from Colorado artists for the 2018 Art-on-Loan Program, a year-long outdoor sculpture exhibition designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and enhance the visitor experience. The program is administered by the South Suburban Park and Recreation District (SSPRD) Board of Directors.

Sculptures will be displayed at two locations: Goodson Recreation Center (6315 South University Boulevard, Centennial, CO 80121), which is visited annually by 400,000 people and offers fitness facilities, swimming pool, dance classes, preschool, gymnasium, and cultural arts classrooms; and The Hudson Gardens & Events Center (6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO 80120), which receives over 130,000 annual visitors for outdoor concerts, garden tours, weddings, and events. At Goodson, sculptures will be placed on three existing concrete pads (36" diameter) with embedded steel plates (24" x 24" x 1/2") near the main entrance. Sculptures must fit on these pads and cannot exceed 4,000 pounds. At Hudson Gardens, three outdoor display pads will be constructed with no size restriction, but weight cannot exceed 4,000 pounds.

Proposed sculptures must be original works appropriate for outdoor public display, of high artistic quality, durable, non-breakable, relatively maintenance-free, and meet public safety and structural integrity standards. Sculptures must be loaned for a one-year exhibition period and be available for sale. Each application should contain one artwork with 2-3 images of the proposed work only. Artists may submit up to 3 different applications. Eligibility is open to all artists residing in Colorado with appropriate background, experience, and reputation. Selected artists will receive a $500 honorarium (W9 required). Artists are responsible for transporting artwork to and from the sites, supplying an appropriate pedestal if needed, and making modifications for mounting. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, the artist must pay a 20% commission to SSPRD. SSPRD will provide equipment and operators for installation and de-installation, supply an identifying sign with title, artist information, and price, and insure the artwork during the exhibition period. Finalists will be notified the week of March 19, 2018, with installation scheduled for the week of June 4, 2018, and de-installation in June 2019.
