About This Call
The 2018 MidSummer Art Celebration is a juried exhibition open to regional artists in Hawaii. Artists may submit up to five entries, with a $17 non-refundable entry fee per submission. Additional entries cost $17 each, and videos incur a $3 surcharge. Submissions must include 1-5 images and/or up to 5 videos. An early entry discount coupon (wcms18) offering $2 off is available until April 30th.
The submission deadline is Friday, May 11 at 8:59 p.m. Artist notification occurs Monday, May 14. Accepted artwork must be dropped off at Wailoa Center (200 Piopio St., Hilo, Hawaii) on Saturday, May 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Off-island work must be received by this date and must include a prepaid return label. The exhibition opens Friday, June 1 with a reception and awards ceremony from 5-7 p.m., and closes Wednesday, June 27. Artists must pick up work Thursday, June 28 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The exhibition is juried by Michael Takemoto, Associate Professor of Art at the University of Hawai'i Maui College. Monetary prizes will be awarded. Works should be for sale, with Wailoa Center charging a 20% commission on all sales.
