About This Call
Art in Public Places invites artists to submit images of past work for consideration for two upcoming mural projects in Longmont, Colorado. There is no theme for either site. For each project, up to three finalists will be selected and asked to present a proposal in person or via video conference. All finalists will receive a $400 stipend following their presentation.
The two projects are: (1) Underpass at 9th Avenue between Alpine & Pace—a 171-foot long tunnel (317 feet total with wing walls) serving bicyclists and pedestrians, 9 feet high and 8 feet wide; and (2) Hover at 21st Street—a 90-foot tunnel, 6 feet 6 inches high and 8 feet wide, with wing walls extending up to 76 feet. Up to $10,000 is available for the 9th & Alpine project and up to $7,500 for the 21st & Hover project. Project budgets include allocations for all materials, travel, insurance, and completed artwork.
Submit up to six images of past work with locations, prices, and dates; an artist statement; CV; and one paragraph describing your interest in the project. Video material up to two minutes may be submitted. Include a brief summary of your intention to include community engagement in the process. Artists must reside along or near the Front Range of Colorado. All work must be appropriate in subject matter with no religious, sexual, violent, or political content. Artists should consider themes of inclusion, tolerance, peace and love, culture, and diversity. Selection panel members will evaluate artists' ability to engage community members, propose community engagement processes, complete work on time and within budget, and embrace diversity and inclusivity. Any winning artist working with youth must undergo a background check by the City of Longmont. Artists must provide proof of insurance before contract execution. Submission deadline: April 8, 2018.
