About This Call
The 2018 Jan Ken Po is a statewide juried print exhibition held at Wailoa Center in Hilo, Hawaii. Artists may submit up to five entries, with a $17 non-refundable entry fee for each submission. Submissions must include 1-5 images of the work.
Submission deadline is Friday, September 21 at 8:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified of acceptance on Monday, September 24. Accepted artwork should be dropped off at Wailoa Center (200 Piopio St., Hilo) on Saturday, September 29 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Off-island work must be received by Friday, September 28 and must include a prepaid return label.
The exhibition opens Friday, October 5 with a reception and awards ceremony from 5-7 p.m. A juror's print demonstration will be held Saturday, October 6. The exhibition closes Wednesday, October 25. Artists must pick up their work on Thursday, October 26 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The juror is Laura Smith, a relief printmaker active in Hawaii's printmaking community for over 20 years. She was Executive Director of the Honolulu Printmakers and a founder of the Honolulu Printmaking Workshop. Her work is in the collections of the Honolulu Museum of Art and the Hawaii State Art Museum.
Monetary prizes will be awarded. Works should be for sale; Wailoa Center will charge a 20% commission on all sales.
