About This Call
Soho Photo Gallery, New York City's longest running co-operative photography gallery located in lower Manhattan, announces the 20th Anniversary of the International Krappy Kamera Competition. All selected photographs will be exhibited at the gallery from March 7 to March 24, 2018. The 1st place winner will receive an award of $500.
This year's juror is Sandra Carrion, who created the Annual International Krappy Kamera Competition 20 years ago at Soho Photo Gallery. She is a former president of the gallery and founding member of fotofoto gallery in Huntington, Long Island. Carrion is also co-founder of Image Factory Experimental Photography Workshops and teaches digital and experimental photography at Nassau Community College.
The competition seeks extraordinary photographs made with basic equipment and lousy lenses. Examples of Krappy Kameras include the Holga, Diana, Ansco, and pinhole cameras. You can also create your own Krappy Kamera by using a non-Krappy camera and exchanging the lens with a Krappy lens (such as a pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell phones, disposables, and point and shoot cameras are ineligible. The lens is the determining factor. Winning photographs must be framed and wired for hanging. Maximum height or width (including frame) for exhibited work cannot exceed 48 inches. Photographs not suitably prepared will be excluded.
Entry fee is $45.00. Additional images cost $5.00 per image. Submit 5-15 images. International eligibility. Minimum age requirement: 18 years.
