About This Call
2018 Hawaii Nei is an exhibition opportunity for artists in Hawaii. The submission deadline is Friday, October 12 at 7:59 PM. Artists may submit a maximum of five entries, with a $15 non-refundable entry fee for each submission. Work samples should include 1-5 images.
Artist notification will occur on Monday, October 15. Artwork drop-off is available at two locations: Donkey Mill Art Center on October 26 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and Wailoa Center (200 Piopio St., Hilo, Hawaii) on Saturday, October 27 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The exhibition opens Friday, November 2 with a reception and awards ceremony from 5-7:30 p.m. The exhibition closes Thursday, December 13. Artists must pick up work at Wailoa Center on Friday, December 14 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., or at Donkey Mill Art Center on Saturday, December 15 between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Jurors are John Dawson, Emily Leucht, and Eldridge Naboa. Monetary prizes will be awarded. All selected adult entries are required to be for sale; youth entries are not. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, 60% goes to the artist and 40% goes to the Hawai'i Island Art Alliance and the Three Mountain Alliance Foundation to support fine arts in the community as well as native species protection and environmental education. The minimum sale price for artwork is $20. Artists may also donate their portion of the sale as a tax-deductible gift.
