About This Call

Established in 1988, the Arts at the Airport Foundation showcases Tennessee's cultural heritage and creative talents through rotating public art exhibitions and permanent acquisitions at Nashville International Airport. The terminal and surrounding facilities were designed to incorporate these exhibitions for the enjoyment and enrichment of passengers, visitors, and employees.

The Flying Solo Exhibition Series, developed in 1996 and supported by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority and funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission, provides a highly visible venue for Tennessee artists and advocates for the public value of art in the region. Honoraria awarded to selected artists range from $500 to $1,000. This opportunity is only open to Tennessee residents or artists who can demonstrate a strong connection to Tennessee through prior residency or their work.

Applicants must choose one category per submission: Ticketing Lobby (large-scale 2-dimensional or low-profile 3-dimensional media, requiring site-specific proposal); Art Cases (3-dimensional media); Concourse C Exhibit Walls (2-dimensional media including photography, framed or protected by plexi with profile less than 4" including frame); or Concourse A Exhibit Cases - Community Groups (for community groups, non-profits, universities, and other groups with Tennessee connection). Up to 3 applications are allowed per artist. Complete proposals must include 7 digital images, site-specific proposal description if applicable, brief artist statement, one to two paragraph biography, and two-page résumé or curriculum vitae. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven experience with similar installations, and artistic merit. Deadline: March 31, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
