About This Call
The Dayton Visual Arts Center (DVAC) invites 2-D media artists to apply for the 2018 Community Supported Art (CSA) program. Selected artists will receive a $750 commission to create an edition of 25 artworks (photographs, prints, or multiples). Artists must commit to creating the edition between notification on February 14 and the deadline of June 1, 2018. Commission payment is 50% at agreement signing and 50% at delivery.
Applications require 1-9 images, an artist statement, CV, and a brief 250-character description of the proposed CSA. All artists are eligible to apply; emerging artists (those exhibiting less than 3 years) are particularly encouraged. DVAC seeks work of the highest level of craftsmanship, originality, and contemporary style. All work must be structurally sound, safe, non-toxic, and fit for its intended use. Commercially-produced items or structures will not be accepted. Artists will be selected by the DVAC Exhibition and Program Committee, comprised of DVAC staff, board members, artists, and previous CSA artists.
Application fee is free for current DVAC members ($45/year membership available). Non-members pay a $10 application fee. DVAC has a reach of 3,500 artists, collectors, faculty, curators, gallerists, media, and the general public, with a membership of 600. In 2016-17, DVAC helped artists receive over $52,000 in art sales commissions. The program will be promoted through regional media, posters, press releases, TV, radio, and online channels. In August, DVAC will host the Harvest Party where shareholders receive three original, signed works of art.
