About This Call
Open Studios Boulder invites artists to apply to be one of up to 20 juried artists in the second annual Boulder Plein Air Festival, a week-long celebration of landscapes and cityscapes taking place June 3-10, 2018 in Boulder County, Colorado. Artists will create work on location (en plein air) during the festival week.
Juried artist participation requires a $50 application fee and includes features in the festival printed catalog (circulation approximately 8,000), social media promotion, email marketing to over 3,800 art lovers, eligibility for awards and prize money, boxed lunches at scheduled paint-outs, hospitality (snacks, water, sunscreen, covered rest areas), and spot-sitting assistance. Juried artists must work on-site for at least 4 of the 6 festival days, attend the quick draw on Pearl Street Mall, create at least 8 pieces for the exhibit, and tag Open Studios on social media posts. Open Studios takes a 40% commission on sales of art created and sold during the festival (June 3-10); artists receive 60% of sales. Non-juried daily participation is also available at $35/day ($30/day if registering for 3+ paint-outs in advance) and includes lunch, hospitality, spot-sitting, and space in the final exhibit.
Applications are submitted through CallforEntry.org with a deadline of February 15, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Applicants must submit 5-8 images. Notification of acceptance, rejection, or waitlist status occurs February 22, with signed contracts due March 12. The printed catalog releases May 8. Art drop-off is Friday, June 8, with the exhibit reception that evening. The public exhibit runs Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10, 11am-5pm, with art pick-up at 5pm Sunday.
