About This Call
The Bonnaroo Works Fund, in partnership with Arts at the Airport, is seeking proposals for four temporary public Bonnaroo-themed artworks to be suspended from the ceiling at Nashville International Airport. The artworks will be displayed from March 12, 2018 to January 20, 2019 in four skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $4,500 and two general admission tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
Artists will create site-specific sculptures or kinetic mobiles for individual skylights (one on Concourse A, one on B, and two on C). Each skylight has glass panels open to exposed sky without UV protective glass. Weight limit is 300 lbs. per sculpture. Projects should be of highest artistic quality in any media and inspired by the principles of the Bonnaroovian Code. Artworks should incorporate iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (such as the Bonnaroo Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower with Cuckoo Clock, fan atmosphere, and infinity symbol—note that the full Bonnaroo brand logo may not be included), display the 2017 location (Manchester, Tennessee), and reflect the Bonnaroovian Code: Prepare Thy Self, Play as a Team, Radiate Positivity, Respect The Farm, Don't be that Guy/Gal, and Stay True Roo.
Applications must include: résumé (maximum 2 pages), one or two paragraph biography, 6-12 photo or video examples of previous work, visual representation of the proposed exhibit (6-10 images and 0-2 videos), and a written site-specific proposal (maximum 3 pages) with artist statement describing how project elements would be incorporated. Proposals must include dimensions, weight, installation method, and explanation of UV resistance for all materials used. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation. Each artist or organization may submit no more than two applications. Applications must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org by October 30, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will be notified December 4, 2017. Installation occurs February 19 – March 9, 2018.
