About This Call
The 2018 Bluegrass Biennial is a juried exhibition open to artists 18 and older currently residing in Kentucky who work in any media. The submission fee is $20. Artists currently employed full time at Morehead State University are not eligible to exhibit.
Submissions must be made through CallForEntry.org with quality images approximately 300 dpi at 4 x 6 inches. Submit 1-6 images with file names including the artist's last name and a short version of the title, plus an indication of being a full or detail image (for example: Reis_Flower_Full.jpg). Images must accurately reflect the artwork to be submitted or risk being excluded from the exhibition. Artworks will be juried only from images submitted; no original artworks will be judged, nor will emailed or mailed submissions be accepted. Artists should be prepared to submit an artist statement and bio at the time of submission and/or acceptance.
All media is accepted, including new media and installation. All 2D work must arrive ready to hang with wire, cleat, or other professional hanging mechanism. Work with unframed glass or materials that could harm gallery staff cannot be accepted. 3D work must be self-supporting and stable. Nontraditional and installation work may require the artist's involvement in installation. Work should not exceed 8 x 8 feet or 100 lbs and must pass through a standard-sized door. The juror will choose one work as Best in Show to receive a $500 award, and several works to receive Merit Awards of $100 each. All artwork will be insured based on the value stated by the artist (no greater than $10,000 per work) from May 17 through September 7. The gallery collects a 20 percent commission on works sold while on exhibit. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs to and from the gallery. Return shipments must include a pre-paid shipping label. Works that remain in the Claypool-Young Art Building longer than 60 days become property of Morehead State University. Exhibition opens June 4 and closes August 29 with a reception and juror's talk. Artwork delivery is May 17-18, with return shipment/pickup September 4-7 or immediately after the closing reception.
