About This Call

The City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program (AIPP) and the On Havana Business Improvement District (Havana BID) are seeking outdoor sculpture for exhibition on Havana Street in Aurora, CO. The exhibit is scheduled to open in October 2018, with selected artists installing their artwork in the first week of October. Sculptures will be exhibited for approximately one year.

This is a regional call open to artists from Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, and Nebraska. Submissions must be three-dimensional, freestanding sculptures of any medium suitable for outdoor exhibition. Artwork must be made from materials appropriate for outdoor conditions, including high summer temperatures (above 100°F), low winter temperatures (below 0°F), high winds, hail, and significant snowfall. Sculptures must be between 4' and 14' in height and weigh between 100 and 4,000 lbs. Artwork should not contain sharp objects or edges and must be durable, require little to no maintenance, be graffiti resistant, and be prepared for installation. All sculptures must be attached to a steel plate bolted to a concrete base, with alternative methods requiring approval from AIPP and Havana BID staff.

Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for transportation, installation, and de-installation. The Havana BID is providing cash awards: 1st Place $1,250, 2nd Place $750, and 3rd Place $500. Sculptures may be purchased from the exhibit and added to Aurora's public art collection. Artists must transport, install, and de-install their own artwork, though assistance and equipment can be provided upon request. A detailed installation plan must be submitted including artwork title, artist contact information, dimensions, weight, connecting plate specifications, bolt requirements, equipment needed, and number of people required for installation. Submit up to five sculptures with a professional resume (limit 2 pages), artist's statement (1 page with no more than 5 sentences per artwork), and two digital images per sculpture (front and back views). Contact Roberta Bloom, Public Art Coordinator, at 303-739-6747 or [email protected] for questions.
