About This Call
The 2018 Sunnyview Art for the View exhibition is open to artists with physical, cognitive, hearing, and visual disabilities. For over 75 years, Sunnyview has been leading the field in physical disability rehabilitation services in New York. The Viewpoint Gallery collects artwork created exclusively by artists with disabilities, with the goal of inspiring patients and visitors to reach beyond limitations and explore their own abilities and creativity.
The exhibit will be featured at a ticketed Art for the View event on September 21, 2018, then displayed from September 24, 2018 through November 16, 2018, at Sunnyview Hospital in Schenectady, NY. The hospital exhibit is free and open to the public. All artwork on display is for sale. Emerging and experienced artists are welcome to submit. Only work executed after the onset of disability or injury is eligible; works must have been completed within the last seven years. Up to five pieces may be submitted. All works must be framed, wired, and ready to hang. Two-dimensional work must use Plexiglas instead of glass, except for pastels which may use glass. Sculpture weight maximum is 25 lbs.; frame size height maximum is 48".
Submissions must include one to two images of each piece, title, year completed, medium, dimensions, biography, and artist statement. In the event of a sale, artists earn 75% of sales. Payments are made by check in U.S. dollars after the exhibition closes. A consignment agreement will be included with acceptance notification. Accepted and non-accepted artists will be notified by June 22nd. Distinguished members of the Capital Region arts community award prizes ranging from $300 to $50 for Best in Show, 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place. For questions, contact Brittany Blond at [email protected] or (518)382-4586.
