About This Call
The Broomfield Public Art Committee seeks artists to participate in the 2018 Art for Awhile Sculpture Program. Selected artists agree to loan their outdoor sculptures from March 2018 to March 2019. Up to eight pieces will be installed at three landmark locations throughout the community: 1STBANK Center (up to three sculptures), the Broomfield Library and Broomfield Auditorium (two sculptures), and North Metro Fire Rescue District Headquarters (three sculptures).
Each selected artist receives a $1,000 honorarium. A $1,000 cash award is given to the artist voted by the Broomfield community as "Broomfield's Choice." The Public Art Committee retains a 20% commission on sculptures sold to support the public art program. Expenses beyond the honorarium must be covered by the artist. The artist is responsible for transporting, installing, and de-installing their work. Installation must occur between March 1-10, 2018, with sculptures remaining on display until March 1, 2019.
Sculptures must be available for delivery and installation by March 1, 2018. Maximum weight cannot exceed 1,000 pounds. Sculptures will be installed outside and exposed to harsh sun, high winds, temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Work must be safe for public interaction, especially with children. Minimum recommended height is 3 feet. Fragile, vulnerable, or inappropriate work will not be considered. Submit 3-8 images of sculptures (minimum 2 images from different angles). The application deadline is July 5, 2017 at midnight. Artists will be notified in late August or early September. Insurance is required during installation.
