About This Call

This is an invitation for teachers to submit their students' artwork into the 2017 Youth Art Month Competition. The theme is "United Through Art." The 2017 Youth Art Month Exhibition will be on display in the galleries at Alexandria Museum of Art from March 3 - April 28, 2017, simultaneously with Kathryn Keller and Our Living Past Photography Exhibitions.

Eligibility: All Kindergarten through 12th grade Rapides Parish school students (including students with disabilities and homeschool students) are eligible to participate. All visual mediums are accepted. Each school may enter two (2) pieces of artwork per grade, one (1) entry per student. Submitted works will be juried and 50 pieces will be accepted for the exhibition. All works must be created during the current school year. Individual and original artwork only; no reproductions or group projects will be accepted.

Submissions: Teachers submit digital images of artwork on behalf of their students via CAFÉ. Images must be JPEGs up to 5MB with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side. Images should be clear, full frame and in color. The call is open for submissions on December 1, 2016, with a deadline to enter on February 8, 2017. Acceptance notifications will be made by email on Monday, February 13, 2017.

Preparation for Accepted Works: 2-D artwork must be matted or mounted in/on white or black with at least 2" borders and should be no larger than 25"x31". Artwork must be ready to hang or display with strong backing and a hanging wire or string securely attached. No framed art. 3-D pieces are limited to 3' in all measurements and must be less than 20 lbs. All accepted artwork must be delivered to AMoA no later than Saturday, February 25 at 3:30pm.

Awards: Four Grade Level Award Categories: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, 9th-12th. Each category awards First, Second, Third Place and Honorable Mention. One Viewer's Choice Award will be voted on by attendees of the Youth Art Month Festival on Saturday, March 11. 1st Place Winners and Viewer's Choice receive an AMoA Family Membership, $50 Dick Blick Gift Card, Ribbon and Certificate. 2nd Place Winners receive a $25 Hobby Lobby Gift Card, Ribbon and Certificate. 3rd Place Winners receive a $15 Hobby Lobby Gift Card, Ribbon and Certificate. Honorable Mention recipients receive an Art Set, Ribbon and Certificate. Award Presentations will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 pm during the Youth Art Month Festival at AMoA.
