About This Call

The Office of Arts & Culture is seeking artists pre-qualified through the Public Art Boot Camp program to develop temporary artworks for the 2017 Seattle Center Sculpture Walk on the Seattle Center campus from August 3, 2017 through January 2, 2018. The theme is "The Heart of the City." ARTS is looking for artists to create highly visible artworks that can transform visitors' relationship to the space and their connection to it. Artworks may draw inspiration from the various festivals staged on the grounds or from the idea of belonging and being in the vibrant center of activity.

Up to seven selected artists will design and develop small-scale temporary artworks to be installed on city-owned street furniture, infrastructure or building facades (lamp posts, railings, sidewalks, trees, tree pits, stair risers, etc.). Artworks must be secured to prevent theft or vandalism and cannot cause permanent damage to city property. The artwork must be designed for easy installation and de-installation, as it may be re-sited once or twice during the five-month period. Installation will occur July 27 – August 2, 2017, with de-installation January 2 – 8, 2018.

Eligibility is limited to artists who have participated in the Public Art Boot Camp program and have not yet received a public art commission from the Office of Arts & Culture. Each selected artist will receive $4,000, inclusive of all fees and Washington State Sales and Use Tax (9.6%), paid in three installments: 40% upon acceptance of final proposal, 40% after documented installation, and 20% after documented de-installation and project documentation. Application deadline: 11:00 p.m. PDT, Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Applicants will be notified by April 26, 2017. Contact Elisheba Johnson at [email protected] or (206) 684-0182.
