About This Call
The 2017 Red Brick Plein Air Festival in Aspen takes place August 6-13, 2017. This juried event is open to artists 18 years and older who live primarily (at least 50% of the time) within Colorado. There is no fee to submit an application; however, event fees apply to those invited. Applications must be received by April 7, 2017 and should include at least 10 images (up to 15) of Plein Air artwork in JPEG format, an artist statement, bio, and listing of past exhibits, festivals, and awards. Submitted artwork images must be representative of the type, style, and medium of work the artist plans to create during the festival and must be entirely the artist's own work with no assistance or instruction.
The juried selection panel consists of Dan Young and Jared Goulet. They will select 8 to 12 artists based in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley and an additional 8 to 12 artists from Colorado outside the Roaring Fork Valley, targeting total participation of 19 artists. Invitations will be sent via email no later than April 30, 2017, and artists must confirm participation by May 15, 2017.
Participating artists must pay event fees: $325 for Roaring Fork Valley artists (no housing provided) or $650 for Colorado artists (housing provided). All artwork must be completed in the Aspen area during the festival dates. Artists are asked to paint at least six original works and may bring one pre-completed studio piece (completely framed, not exceeding 48" in any dimension). An opening reception will be held Thursday, August 10th at the Limelight Hotel. Artists are required to participate in a Quick Draw competition on Friday, August 11th. The exhibition and sale run Thursday evening through Sunday at 3pm. The Red Brick retains 25% of all revenue generated. Host lodging is available at no charge for seven nights (August 6-13) for participating artists and spouse.
