About This Call

Paint the Peninsula is a juried plein air competition in its fifth year, held in Port Angeles, Washington, gateway to Olympic National Park. The event takes place August 20-27, 2017. Port Angeles and its surrounding areas offer plein air artists sweeping vistas, soaring mountains, vintage working farms, intimate woods, and expansive ocean views. The event is hosted by and benefits the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center (PAFAC), a non-profit organization supporting the arts through gallery shows and community art events. The PAFAC gallery is located in Webster's Woods, a five-acre woodland area featuring over 100 sculptures and other works of art.

Registration opens January 1, 2017 and closes March 31, 2017. Entry fee is $40.00. Artists must submit 3 images for jury evaluation by a panel of 3 jurists from arts-related fields. Up to 24 artists will be selected, with last year's winners invited as guest artists. Finalists will be notified by May 15, 2017. Cash prizes totaling $12,000 will be awarded in various categories.

All work must be framed and wire-strung, no larger than 18 inches unframed on its longest side (except one painting per artist up to 48 inches framed). Orientation and stamping of substrates are mandatory. A 40% commission for PAFAC applies to all work sold during the event and for two months following. Minimum price for work is $300 except during the Paint Out and small painting show on the final day. Attendance at the awards reception on August 26 is mandatory, as is participation in the Paint Out on August 25. Host housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis in exchange for a small painting. For questions, contact Anne Dalton at 360-457-7782 or [email protected].
