2017 Grand Canyon Celebration of Art

The 9th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is a plein air painting event taking place September 9-17, 2017 at Grand Canyon National Park. Proceeds from this event will fund an art venue on the South Rim to preserve and showcase the historic and contemporary paintings owned by Grand Canyon National Park and the Grand Canyon Association.

Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years and older with plein air experience and experience painting the Grand Canyon. Applicants must submit a completed entry form, one-page résumé (including contact info), three professional-quality JPEG images of plein air artwork (minimum 300 DPI, with at least one Grand Canyon image painted from the Rim), and a non-refundable entry fee of $40. All submissions must be postmarked by January 10, 2017. The event is juried; a panel of three to five jurors will select four to six artists who, together with returning and invited artists, will comprise the twenty-six participants. Notification of acceptance will be emailed no later than February 1, 2017.

Participating artists must submit one studio piece (framed dimensions not to exceed 30 inches in width) and a minimum of five plein air paintings completed on site between September 9-16, 2017. All works must be suitably framed and ready to hang. Artists must participate in the Quick Draw Event and Auction on September 16. The Grand Canyon Association will retain a 50 percent commission on all sales. Awards include People's Choice Award (voted by the general public), Artists' Choice Award, and other awards to be determined. Artists are responsible for lodging, transportation, and return shipping costs for unsold artwork. The exhibition and sale continue through January 15, 2018.
