About This Call

Bunnell Street Arts Center presents an Artist in Residence program for visiting artists to create and share artwork that activates the Arts Center's space and surrounding community. The program is open to Alaska, US, and international artists and explores creative placemaking through strengthening the social, physical, and economic fabric of a community through arts and culture.

Bunnell seeks artist-led projects featuring community engagement through art such as poetry, new media, music, ephemeral art, dance, painting, theater, installation, creative writing, or sculpture. Residencies are one month in length, scheduled between January 1 and December 31, 2017. Visual artists must submit a one-page statement of intent, resume, and 5 work samples. Sound artists and video/filmmakers should submit 3 work samples. Writers should submit 5 work samples. An application fee of $25 is required. Applications must be submitted by October 31, 2016, with residencies awarded by December 1, 2016.

Residents receive a $1,000 stipend for one month, up to $1,000 for round-trip coach travel to Homer, and lodging in a private room with shared kitchen and living area above the arts center. The artist studio is Bunnell's main exhibition gallery, open to the public Monday-Saturday 11am-5pm. Facilities include wireless internet, nipping press, small printing press, HD/3D video projector, and HD video camera. Artists are expected to provide an artist talk, a workshop, and contribute one work of art created during the residency for installation, exhibit, performance, reading, screening, or other event in consultation with the organization.
