About This Call

The Bonnaroo Works Fund in partnership with Arts at the Airport seeks proposals for 5 temporary public art works with Bonnaroo-themed displays at Nashville International Airport. The displays will be suspended from the ceiling from March 13, 2017 to January 21, 2018, encompassing 5 skylights located in airport concourses on the secure side of the terminal. Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $2,000 and 2 general admission tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Each artist will create a site-specific sculpture or kinetic mobile for one skylight. There are 5 skylights total: 1 on Concourse A, 1 on Concourse B, and 3 on Concourse C. The skylights have glass panels open to exposed sky with no UV protective glass installed. Weight limit is 300 lbs. per sculpture. Projects must incorporate iconic Bonnaroo festival elements (such as the Bonnaroo Arch, Fountain, Fire Tower with Cuckoo Clock, fan atmosphere, and infinity symbol—note that the full Bonnaroo brand logo may not be included), display the 2017 location (Manchester, Tennessee), and reflect the Bonnaroovian Code principles. Projects may not include elements requiring electricity or maintenance after installation.

Applications must include: résumé (maximum 2 pages), biography (1-2 paragraphs), 6-12 visual examples of previous work (6-10 images maximum, 0-2 videos maximum), visual representation of the proposed exhibit (6-10 images, 0-2 videos), written site-specific proposal (maximum 3 pages), and artist statement describing how project elements would be incorporated and the piece's connection to Bonnaroo. Dimensions, weight, installation method, and UV resistance information must be included. Applications must be submitted electronically via callforentry.org. Each artist or organization may submit no more than 2 applications. Artists previously selected must wait one year before reapplying. Application deadline: October 30, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Selected artists will be notified December 12, 2016. Delivery and installation: February 20 – March 10, 2017.
