About This Call
The South Suburban Public Art Committee (SSPAC) seeks proposals from Colorado artists for the 2017 Art-on-Loan Program, a year-long outdoor sculpture exhibition designed to promote public interest in art, develop community pride, and enhance the visitor experience. The program will display sculptures at two locations: Goodson Recreation Center (6315 South University Boulevard, Centennial, CO 80121) and The Hudson Gardens & Events Center (6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO 80120). Goodson is visited annually by 400,000 people and offers fitness facilities, swimming pool, dance classes, preschool, gymnasium, and cultural arts classrooms. Hudson Gardens receives over 130,000 annual visitors for outdoor concerts, garden tours, weddings, and events.
At Goodson Recreation Center, sculptures will be displayed on three existing concrete pads (36" diameter) near the main entrance, each with an embedded steel plate (24" x 24" x 1/2") for welding. Sculptures must fit on the provided pads and cannot exceed 4,000 pounds. At Hudson Gardens, three outdoor display pedestals will be constructed with no size restriction, but sculptures cannot exceed 4,000 pounds. Proposed sculptures must be appropriate for outdoor public display, of high artistic quality, original works, durable, non-breakable, relatively maintenance-free, meet public safety and structural integrity standards, and be composed of parts resistant to weather and vandalism. Sculptures must be loaned to SSPRD for one year and must be available for sale.
Eligibility is open to all artists residing in Colorado with appropriate background, experience, and reputation. Artists may submit up to 3 artworks, with each application including 2-3 images. The $500 exhibitor's honorarium is provided for each sculpture displayed. The artist is responsible for transporting artwork to and from the venue, supplying a pedestal if required, making necessary modifications for installation, and handling all sales transactions and applicable taxes. If artwork is sold, the artist must pay a 20% commission to SSPRD. SSPRD will provide equipment and operators for installation and de-installation, supply an identifying sign with title, artist information, and price, and insure the artwork during the exhibition period. Deadline for submittal is Friday, January 13, 2017. Finalists will be notified before March 1, 2017, with installation scheduled for the week of June 5, 2017, and de-installation in June 2018.
