About This Call
Pelham Art Center announces the 9th biennial Alexander Rutsch Award and Exhibition for Painting. The prize winner will receive a solo exhibition at Pelham Art Center (May 5 – June 17, 2017) and a $5,000 cash award. An opening reception and award presentation will be held Friday, May 5, 2017, 6:30-8:00pm.
Eligibility: Only U.S.-based artists, 19 years of age and older, are eligible to apply. Entry fee is $30 per applicant. Entries must be submitted through the CaFE website starting November 1, 2016, through February 1, 2017, 11:59pm MST. Applicants must submit five digital painting images in JPEG format, no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and 5 MB maximum file size. All submitted images must be available for possible exhibition. Paintings must not exceed 84 x 84 inches.
Finalists will be notified February 6, 2017, and the winner will be notified March 6, 2017. Finalists will be required to submit an artist's statement, résumé, and images of 10-15 additional available works. The Alexander Rutsch Award honors the memory of Alexander Rutsch (1916–1997), an artist who actively supported Pelham Art Center for more than 25 years. The award was established by friends, supporters, and the Rutsch family to support a biennial open, juried competition in painting.
