About This Call

Texas Visual Arts Association (TVAA) announces an open call for submissions for the 2016 TVAA National Art Competition & Exhibit, juried by Andrea Karnes, Curator at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and Gabriel Ritter, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The exhibition will be displayed at the Mesquite Arts Center December 5-28, 2016. Prizes totaling $4,000 will be awarded to the best works in the competition.

Open to artists 18 years and older residing in the United States. All work must be original, produced within the last two years, and not previously exhibited at the Mesquite Arts Center. Original 2D work in any medium is eligible, including painting, prints, drawings, photography, and digital images. 2D work should not exceed a framed size of 40" in the longest dimension. 3D work should not exceed 2' in the longest dimension and must be delivered and installed by the artist. Submissions must include 1-3 digital images. Entry fee is $45. All artworks will be presented to the jurors in an anonymous manner.

Awards include: Rose Tobey Memorial Best of Show ($1,000), Second Place ($400), Third Place ($300), Rowena Elkin Memorial Award for Sculpture ($300), Rosenlund Family Award for 2-D ($200), and nine Awards for Excellence at $200 each. All works in the exhibit may be offered for sale; TVAA will retain a 20% handling fee for any sales. Work will be insured at the Mesquite Arts Center but not in transit. Artists are responsible for insuring works in transit. Submission deadline: September 14, 2016. Applicants will be notified of jury results by October 10. Shipped artwork is due November 14-19, with 2-D artwork delivery November 18-19 and 3-D artwork delivery and installation November 30-December 1.
