About This Call
Sculpture Walk Peoria is an annual, juried, outdoor exhibition accepting submissions for outdoor sculpture. The 2016 exhibition aims to install 20 sculptures in highly visible locations along Washington Street and Adams Street in Peoria, Illinois, between Liberty and Elm Street in the Peoria Warehouse District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
All sculptures must be for sale and made of materials that can withstand harsh Midwest weather without requiring maintenance other than occasional washing. Sculptures are owned by the artist and loaned to the exhibit for one year with a possible negotiated one-year extension. Selected artists receive a $1,500 honorarium ($1,000 on delivery, $500 at pickup), plus round-trip mileage reimbursement up to $250, free hotel accommodations for 2 nights on delivery weekend, and are eligible for a $2,500 People's Choice Award. ArtsPartners of Central Illinois receives a 20% commission on any sculptures sold during the exhibition. Sculpture pad size is approximately 5 feet x 5 feet, with a few larger sites available.
Submissions must include a resume, photos of a maximum of three sculptures (up to three images each), and a brief description of each sculpture (500 words maximum). One application per artist. The $20 application fee applies. Submissions are evaluated on artistic merit, public safety, appropriateness, durability in the outdoors, and creativity. Delivery and installation occur June 2-4, 2016, with pickup between May 1 and June 1, 2017. Artists are expected to participate in an opening reception on Saturday evening, June 4, 2016, and describe their sculpture to the public for up to 3 hours on Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2016. International artists are eligible.
