About This Call
The 2016 Red Brick Plein Air Festival in Aspen is open to all artists 18 years and older who live primarily (at least 50% of the time) within the state of Colorado. There is no fee to submit an application. Applicants must submit at least 5 images (up to 10) of their Plein Air artwork in JPEG format, along with an artist statement, bio, and listing of past exhibits, festivals, and awards. Submitted artwork images must be representative of the type, style, and medium of artwork the artist plans to create during the festival and must be entirely the artist's own work with no assistance or instruction.
Participation is through a juried process with jurors Dean Bowlby and Mia Valley. The panel will select 10 to 15 artists based in Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley and an additional 10-15 artists from the state of Colorado outside the Roaring Fork Valley, for a total participation of 24-30 artists. Invitations will be sent via email no later than April 21, 2016, and artists must confirm participation by May 15, 2016.
The festival takes place August 7-14, 2016. Event fees are $300 for Roaring Fork Valley artists (no housing provided) and $600 for Colorado artists (housing provided). All artwork must be completed in the Aspen area during the festival dates, and artists are asked to paint at least six original works. An exhibition and sale will be held at the Limelight Hotel in downtown Aspen, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 11th. The Red Brick will retain 25% of all revenue from sales. Cash awards include: Artist Choice Award ($1200), Quick-Draw Competition Award ($600), Audience Choice Award ($600), Top-Seller Number of Pieces ($600), and Top-Seller Dollar Sales ($600). Award winners are invited to participate in the 2017 festival and bypass jury selection.
