About This Call
The Pacific States Biennial National juried print exhibition was established by the Art Department Print Studio at the University of Hawaii Hilo in 1982. The 2016 PSBN expands its call for entries to artists 18 years or older presently residing in North America and US Territories. The premier Hawaii biennial exhibition is hosted in conjunction with the Campus Center Gallery with support from the Student Activities Council and the East Hawaii Cultural Center.
Eligible work includes original prints in all printmaking media and digital/traditional hybrid prints. Photography and digital reproductions of original works are not accepted. Paper size must not exceed 30" x 40". Artists may submit up to 2 works completed within the past 2 years. Entry fee is $35.00 (USD). Digital images must be submitted online via the CaFE system, sized to 1920 pixels for the longest dimension with a maximum file size of 3mb. Entry deadline is August 15, 2016. Accepted work must arrive by September 16, 2016, sent without mat or frame in a reusable mailing tube or flat package.
The juror is Lloyd Menard, Professor Emeritus at the University of South Dakota. Awards include a first place 10-day artist residency at the University of Hawaii at Hilo with travel, lodging, per diem, and $1000 honorarium, plus $2000 in Juror and State Foundation Purchase Awards. A two-week printmaking symposium will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, featuring visiting artists, demonstrations, lectures, and satellite exhibitions. The exhibition opens October 19, 2016 and closes December 30, 2016. All participating artists receive one color catalog at no cost. UH Hilo covers return shipping costs, with artwork typically returned within 6-8 weeks.
