2015 Williams Prize in Drawing for Emerging Artists

The 2015 Williams Prize in Drawing for Emerging Artists is a celebration of drawing as a critical element in contemporary art making and as an art form with powerful expressive possibilities. The prize provides a venue through which emerging artists can share, on a national stage, both their unique visions and their drawing skills.

The competition is designed for applicants creating 2D drawings with either traditional methods or more experimental contemporary approaches and materials, excluding digitally created or enhanced art. Drawing media encouraged include chalk, charcoal, Conte, graphite, marker, metalpoint, pastel, pen & ink, and pencil. All art must be original and completed independently within the past 2 years (2013-present). "Emerging artists" are those who self-identify as "emerging" rather than "mid-career" or "established" artists. There are no upper age limits, but The Artist for Artists Project is specifically looking for artists without gallery representation. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older and currently residing in the United States. Drawings should be no larger than 42"x60". There is no required theme.

Entry fee is $35 for a portfolio of 1-10 drawings, paid by credit card through CaFE. All entry fees are non-refundable. The 2015 juror is Sherry Camhy. Awards include First Prize of $1,000 and ten Juror's Choice Awards of $200 each. Finalists from the top 50 portfolios will be invited to participate in the Juror's Second Review, during which the juror will select eleven prize winners and finalists for inclusion in the 2015 Winners' Catalog.
