About This Call
The South Florida Cultural Consortium awards fellowships to emerging, mid-career, and established visual and media artists residing in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties. Fellowships of $15,000 and $7,500 are awarded to selected artists. No more than two fellowships of $7,500 may be awarded in each county.
Eligibility: All professional artists residing and working in one of the five participating counties from October 25, 2013 to October 25, 2014 are eligible to apply. Applicants must be over 18 years of age and apply from their county of residence. The Consortium defines a professional artist as a person who has created a recognized body of original works of art within an artistic discipline over a sustained period of time. Artists serving as volunteers on boards or committees of Consortium member agencies may apply if not directly involved in the Fellowship program decision-making. Ineligible applicants include those engaging in art as a hobby, employees of participating County governments or member local arts agencies, and non-professional student artists pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees.
Application Requirements: Visual artists must submit ten digital images presenting an overview of their work, title, dimensions, medium and date of each work, a resume, a statement about their work, and no more than two support materials in PDF or MS Word format. Visual artists working in sound, installations, and kinetic sculpture may submit a 3-minute video, audio, or dynamic media file in lieu of still images. Media artists must submit a video file (3GP, WMV, AVI, MOV, ASF, MPG, MP4, M2T, MKV, M2TS format, maximum 100 MB, not exceeding 10 minutes), a resume, a statement about their work, and no more than two support materials. All work samples must have been completed within three years prior to the application date. Applications must be submitted online via CaFÉ at https://www.callforentry.org by November 14, 2014 at midnight. There is no application fee.
Review Criteria: Submissions are judged on degree of artistic excellence, evidence of an established and recognized body of work over a sustained period of time, and consistency in the submitted body of work. Submissions are grouped by county and reviewed anonymously by a regional panel of visual and media arts experts. The regional panel forwards recommendations to a national panel, which reviews recommendations with support materials. The national panel's recommendations are reviewed and ratified by the South Florida Cultural Consortium. Regional and national judging will take place in January/February 2015, with recipients announced in spring 2015 and awards presented in summer 2015. An exhibition will take place in fall 2015. A five-year moratorium applies to recipients of the $15,000 fellowship awarded between 2010 and 2014, and a three-year moratorium applies to recipients of the $7,500 fellowship awarded between 2012 and 2014.
For questions about eligibility and requirements, contact Brandi Reddick at [email protected] or 305.375.5436. Four workshops are being offered across the South Florida region in September and October 2014 to discuss the selection process and application requirements.
