About This Call

The WCU Fine Art Museum invites undergraduate students enrolled at Western Carolina University to submit work for the 2015 Juried Undergraduate Exhibition. Artwork must have been created in the 2011-2012 school year. The entry fee is $10.00. Submissions may include up to 12 total work samples, combining images (maximum 12), audio (maximum 6), and video (maximum 6).

The exhibition will be held Thursday, April 23 – May 8, 2015. The juror is Jordan Ahlers, Gallery Director at Blue Spiral 1 (Asheville, NC). Awards include cash prizes in each media category (painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking & book arts, new media, and photography), as well as a Chancellor's Award, College of Fine & Performing Arts Dean's Purchase Award, and an overall Best in Show. The museum will produce a full color catalogue featuring at least one work by each artist, artist information, and a statement from the exhibition juror.

Artwork must arrive ready to display. All 2-D or wall-mounted works must be equipped with D-Rings; alternative display methods require advance permission from the museum. 3-D work must be able to stand alone, have its own pedestal, or fit the museum's standard pedestals. Graphic design and 2-D prints must be submitted framed and ready for display. Motion graphics and video must be saved as QuickTime files. Interactive Flash work must be presented within a webpage with all files needed to view offline. Site-specific work must include a reference such as a photograph, maquette, or other symbol. Artwork must not contain highly flammable or dense organic matter. Accepted entries must be delivered by Tuesday, April 14, 12pm–5pm. Work can be picked up during museum hours Sunday, May 10, 10am–12pm. Contact Denise Drury at [email protected] for questions about display requirements or special installation needs.
